“A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.
When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Discover the next blockbuster novel of suspense, and get ready for the read of your life.”
The above is the description from Goodreads for this new novel coming out on January 9th of 2018 by St. Martin’s Press. I was so impressed by this and so drawn in the entire way through.
I was honored to have been contacted by St. Martin’s Press to get to take part in the official blog tour for this novel! I jumped at the chance.
Interested to know more? Below you will find my honest review (as always) and my spoiler-free thoughts on this riveting new thriller! Read on until the end for a little surprise for my readers. 😉
This book is a total whirlwind. Yes, assume nothing.
I guessed a few of the twists, sort of circled around others, but a few were just like “WHOA!”
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone looking for one helluva twisty psychological thriller.
I can’t get into a lot of the plot without giving away the shocks….and believe me the shocks are what makes it a page-turner!
Let’s see, We start out with a story of a woman freshly divorced, Vanessa. She is living with her Aunt who has a secret of her own.
Richard is this rich guy. His only family is a sister named Maureen. Richard has a murky and secretive past and he is getting married again.
Backstory gets filled in all over the place as it goes along…We realize that there is a dark hidden something that happened in Florida which prompted a move to New York for Nellie. Nellie has a roommate named Sam who doesn’t care for Richard.
We have mysterious phone calls, Duke the dog who goes missing, alcohol abuse and depression among other things happening…
Vanessa is trying to get help from Kate. Kate also has her own secrets.
We have Emma who Vanessa is trying to help but Emma has a secret too.
EVERYONE has a secret and they all get explored and explained as the story progresses!
GAH this book was SO good, I wanted to keep going and find out what would happen next and I LOVE that experience.
My reactions throughout this were varied, but considering how much I *did* guess correctly, I was STILL blown away by all the little nuances I couldn’t have possibly seen coming.
This one will have you riveted and thinking about it when you are away from it, excitedly returning to read more and learn more…just do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It’s the most suspenseful book I have read all year!
Check out my reading notes/thoughts as I read. I removed the obvious big spoilers, but you can see here the shock factor and the engagement in reading this story was very high for me!
